2023 was the year I pushed myself back into reading again. I recommend all of these:
The Hyperion series by Dan Simmons.
Kaiju Preservation Society by John @[email protected]. Thank you for my autographed edition of Starter Villain - it was the highlight of my Christmas presents and will be the first new book I read in 2024!
A Memory Called Empire and A Desolation called Peace by Arkady Martine @[email protected]
A Mystery of Mysteries: The Death and Life of Edgar Allen #Poe by Mark Dawidziak
The Fall of the House of Usher by Edgar Allen Poe
All the Birds in the Sky and The City in the Middle of The Night by Charlie Jane Anders @[email protected]
The Sympathizer and The Committed by Viet Thanh Nguyen
The Wager by David Grann
The first three books in The Expanse series (will start with the 4th in the New Year) by James S. A. Corey
Tomorrow, and Tomorrow, and Tomorrow by Gabrielle Zevin
Got any suggestions for 2024 reading?

Ok, since I'm migrating, the thing to do is write an #introduction post...
I'm Packy, and I'm a third-generation computer professional through my mother's side of the family. I've worn a lot of hats in my 30+ years of work: PC tech, sysadmin, network engineer, support specialist, software architect, but the one I enjoy the most is Perl Developer. I put my perl stuff on my Github page.
In my spare time, my wife @[email protected] and I do community theater, and we have a puppet company called PacKay Productions. We stopped making puppet videos before the pandemic, but we're looking forward to forming some new creative partnerships and firing up the video cameras again.

Hello to all the new folks! Some helpful tips:
1. Follow any and everyone that looks even remotely interesting to you. You can always unfollow later if needed.
2. Use a few relevant hashtags in your posts to reach folks with similar interests.
3. You can follow hashtags for subjects you're interested in! If you see a hashtag in a post, tap on it, then tap the + icon to follow all posts with that hashtag. Or search for hashtags in your Explore tab (# or search icon depending on what app you are using).
4. Please add #AltText to your images to improve the experience for EVERYONE. It's easy: once you've uploaded your image, just tap Edit: pretend you're describing the image to a friend who can't see it. It's the nice thing to do and increases chances your post will get boosted. Follow @[email protected] for reminders.
5. Follow @[email protected] for great tips on using Mastodon and the Fediverse.
6. Write an #introduction post using that hashtag.
7. Have fun!

PLEASE TAKE A MOMENT TO READ A POEM THAT HAS COST ME A LOT OF EFFORT AND PAIN
IT SHOULD SERVE ONLY ONE PURPOSE
IT SHOULD SHAKE YOU UP
PHYSICAL AND PSYCHOLOGICAL VIOLENCE IN A RELATIONSHIP CAN HAVE FATAL CONSEQUENCES
LET US SHOW AS A COMMUNITY, AS HUMAN BEINGS, THAT WE WILL NOT TURN A BLIND EYE TO THIS
GIVE THESE WOMEN A VOICE, BECAUSE THEIRS IS SILENCED, HAS FEAR
