New Server; New #Introduction
I'm Daniel, I've been involved with activism for most of my life, and I have a life-long interest in the intersection of technology and class/privilege.
I live near the sea -- but not too near -- in Midleton, a small town in Ireland.
Parent to four kids, 75% of whom are now adults, and half of whom are attending University (which is *astonishing* as I'm still only 25...)
I love #reading, and try to post about books I love, which are usually Science Fiction and Fantasy. #amreading
I autodelete all my posts after 60 days.
I've been on fedi since 2011, have used #mastodon since April 2017.

So I'm 20% through The Will of the Many and it's good. But I really don't like the MC. He's way too arrogant to be likable. #reading #amreading
The book I'm reading right now just had the biggest Hallmark movie moment I've ever seen outside the actual Hallmark movie channel. Of course the guy has a fiance. Of course he does. Saw that coming a mile away.
The magic is good, and I like the FMC, but goodness the rest is shit.
(FWIW The book is The Unfortunate Side Effects of Heartbreak and Magic by Breanne Randall. And yes, with a title like that I shoulda known it would be like this.) #reading #amreading
I'm getting very sick of every Fantasy and Sci-Fi author thinking they have to be George R.R. Martin and making their novels into huge series. Not everything has to be a series.

So for February, I read 5 #books in total.
The Lonely Hearts Book Club by Lucy Gilmore (3.5 stars)
The Thief by Megan Whalen Turner (3.25 stars)
The Serpent and the Wings of Night by Carissa Broadbent (3.25 Stars)
Paladin's Grace by T. Kingfisher (4 Stars)
Dragon Bound by Thea Harrison (3.25 Stars)
Was on a fantasy romance kick this month. Paladin's Grace was my fav. Going to read some epic fantasy in March. #reading #bookstodon #amreading
Other than #reading and #amreading what are some good hashtags to follow here on the fediverse for people who like to read?
Finished my fourth book for this year today. This time it was a fluffy little book called The Lonely Hearts Book Club.
3.75 Stars. Loved the characters, but the open ending made me want more. #reading #amreading
What a start to my 2024 books thread. So many 5⭐️, so little space to talk about them! Basically, you can't go wrong with any of these books so check them out. From the dark (Holland) to the cozy (Valentine, Mandanna, Klune) to the funny (Watt, Brown) there's something here for everyone (who likes fantasy). #bookstodon #amreading #books
Out of 103 books read in 2023, here are my favourites. Bit of a regency theme going on! & as an added bonus, I've threaded this onto 2022's top books 😊 #bookstodon #amreading #bestbooks #2023 #topbooks
Updating you from the blood-soaked hellscape of Chicago.
Btw this joke made me literally laugh out loud: “How can you tell if a Finn likes you?” (He’s looking at your shoes instead of his own.)

It's been a fantastic year for me in terms of books. Here's 25 books I absolutely loved in 2022 & highly recommend #bookstodon #books #books2022 #amreading
Writing about animal cognition and emotion, and the ethics of how we do and SHOULD treat animals, is incredibly sustaining and important to me. I hope to interact with the writing community here! Here are my three most recent books. How Animals Grieve is definitely the most well-known. Though I write non-fiction exclusively, I read a ton of fiction, too. #writer #writing #writingcommunity #amreading #books #animals #nature #primates #birds #cephalopods #anthropology #science #gender #maskup
