Whenever people ask "why can't Black people in America create vibrant commuities?" the answer is: they did. Multiple times. Those communities were just systematically wiped out by white supremacists. In the late 19th - early 20th century by racist mobs with the support of the Democrats. In the post-WWII era by racist urban planners with the support of the Republicans. #BlackFedi #BlackMastodon #BlackTwitter #Blackademia https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2OWSre7dNbY

A well known poignant poem from Countee: “Incident” Once riding in old Baltimore, Heart-filled, head-filled with glee, I saw a Baltimorean Keep looking straight at me. Now I was eight and very small, And he was no whit bigger, And so I smiled, but he poked out His tongue, and called me, “Nigger.” I saw the whole of Baltimore From May until December; Of all the things that happened there That’s all that I remember. 2/3 #BlackMastodon #Histodons #History #Poetry

Originally shot in Black and White, here is the colorized version of The Nicholas Brothers in one of the GREATEST dance sequences ever performed! From the 1943 film, “Stormy Weather,” the clip also features Cab Calloway and Orchestra playing “Jumpin’ Jive.” Childhood prodigies, The Nicholas Brothers don’t get nearly the recognition they deserve. They were truly astonishing to behold! https://youtu.be/IoMbeDhG9fU #BlackMastodon #BlackTwitter #BlackFedi #BlackJoy #BlackExcellence #BlackFriday
