For any new followers (finally) fleeing from Twitter: hello, I'm Anthony, and I run a blog (split into two sections) about media and tech. I write about comics, animation, Linux/blogging/other tech, streaming services, and diversity in the above. My Mastodon posts are mostly along similar lines as the above, plus occasional mention of sports. Thanks for following me! #TwitterMigration #Twitter #Mastodon #BlackMastodon #LGBTQ #Introduction

Whenever people ask "why can't Black people in America create vibrant commuities?" the answer is: they did. Multiple times. Those communities were just systematically wiped out by white supremacists. In the late 19th - early 20th century by racist mobs with the support of the Democrats. In the post-WWII era by racist urban planners with the support of the Republicans. #BlackFedi #BlackMastodon #BlackTwitter #Blackademia https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2OWSre7dNbY

On July 5, 1852, Frederick Douglass delivered his greatest speech, "What to the Slave is the 4th of July?" Resonating with principles of freedom & equality, this speech was a powerful indictment of American hypocrisy & moral decay, as a nation simultaneously celebrated freedom while it enslaved millions. He compelled white Americans to confront the inherent moral contradictions in their society or face dire consequences. 1/31 #BlackMastodon #Histodons #History

A well known poignant poem from Countee: “Incident” Once riding in old Baltimore, Heart-filled, head-filled with glee, I saw a Baltimorean Keep looking straight at me. Now I was eight and very small, And he was no whit bigger, And so I smiled, but he poked out His tongue, and called me, “Nigger.” I saw the whole of Baltimore From May until December; Of all the things that happened there That’s all that I remember. 2/3 #BlackMastodon #Histodons #History #Poetry

Countee Cullen would be 120 years old in a few days. Not as well known as poets like Langston Hughes, Cullen was an intimate and prominent poet of the Harlem Renaissance. His verses explored themes of identity, race, and cultural heritage, and challenged the prevailing societal norms of the time. He had an elegant and craftsmanship that went a long way toward elevating the status of African American poetry in the mainstream literary genre. #BlackMastodon #Histodons #History #Poetry #Books

I’ve been writing for twenty years, just trying to get thoughts out
My tongue was steady tied…writing helped get the knots out
Writing made it easier to presentate all my vividest
Images that I envisioned with long-winded descriptions.
Writing goes hand-in-hand with my love for hip-hop
I can’t stop rhyming and I know that I won’t stop
I watched hip-hop grow from a fledgling fad
To what all other music wants to be SO bad.
My interest in comic books goes back to the time
When Spider-Man cost little more than 2.99
In school, I used to make comic books of my own
And ain’t a dang thang changed even now that I’m grown.
It took a while to figure out how I could combine
All my passions, to indulge in all at the same time
Now I’ve found the winning formula, so now my passion
Is to create until something life-changing happens.

Updated #Introduction Jay Z voice: “Allow me to re-introduce myself!” My name is Billy, but some call me Billz. Call me anything respectful, except Bill, please. Even better than patronizing Black businesses or donating to orgs and social programs and mutual aid (do all that too), and... Give Black People money. Just give it to em. And all marginalised people. Give em money. They can't do the work of change because they're just trying to live, fear unemployment, choices don't exist. Because of "The Economy" You don't need a mechanism to make it feel justified Just give em money #BlackMastodon @[email protected] @[email protected]
