"I'm just getting the lighting right," yells the photographer from the distance as the model thinks "This giant Ulysses butterfly is tickling my nose! If you don't take the photographs soon, I'm going to sneeze and ruin everything!" #FediGiftShop https://joan-stratton.pixels.com/featured/portrait-butterflies-tickle-joan-stratton.html #portrait #female #woman #flowers #fashion #butterflies #fantasy #artist #artwork #fediart #mastoart #Art #Artforsale #Ayearforart #Buyintoart #giftideas #Paintingsbyjoan #JoanStratton @[email protected]

Three this morning, flutter flutter. #insects #butterflies

Hamadryus, the genus of the "cracker" butterflies, named for the cracking noise the males make. I generally only share in situ photos of animals in their natural habitats, but this one is from a recent trip to a butterfly conservatory. #insects #butterflies #MacroPhotography

If (like me) you're getting a little burned out of "that same certain news story" and all the misinformation running rampant on social media right now, it's a good idea to take a break. Here are some suggested pleasant, positive accounts & hashtags to enjoy (even though it's not #FollowFriday ), in no particular order and on a variety of topics: #SilentSunday #ThreeGoodThings #HashtagGames #DogsOfMastodon #Caturday #FediArt #StreetArt #Design #Photography #Wildlife #Songbirds #Butterflies / #Beescrolling #Bloomscrolling #FlowerFriday #Mosstodon / #LichenSubscribe #ThickTrunkTuesday #TextureTuesday #JukeboxFridayNight #FoliageFriday #LittleFreeLibraries / #Little_Free_Library #Bicycles / #Bicycling / #BikeTooter #Travel #Staircases (really!) #Architecture #FensterFreitag / #WindowFriday #JohnMastodon #DadJokes / #Humor / #Puns #HootinTootinTuesday @[email protected] @[email protected] @[email protected] @[email protected] @[email protected]

An entomological abstract. (Hamadryas amphinome - the red cracker butterfly, photographed in Colombia) #Insects #butterflies

It doesn't get much prettier than this red-spotted purple butterfly (Limenitis arthemis) in our black raspberry patch. #butterflies #nativeplants #Illinois #nature #photography #wildlifephotography

Finally, the idea for my #exhibition! " #Archaeologists made a revolutionary #discovery in 2033. In the vicinity of pottery shards from the late Betschdorf and Soufflenheim cultures (early 21st century), they found objects reminiscent of ancient #reliquaries. An antique QR code will be provided for you to visit this page. You can also beam up in the form of a hologram." 😎 😂 ▶️ https://www.cronenburg.net/reliquaires/ #SciArt #ArtActivism #BiodiversityShrines #BiodiversityLoss #archaeology #butterflies

One of the last generation of butterflies from this year. Today we’re releasing 17 that should be heading for Mexico. #insects #butterflies

A monarch chrysalis. An early stage, and slightly backlit. #insects #butterflies #MacroPhotography

A freshly molted 5th star monarch bulking up for its final transformation. #insects #butterflies #MacroPhotography

One of the 40-ish? caterpillars collected from the garden. It took me around an hour to collect new cuttings (with a bonus egg), remove dead leaves, relocate caterpillars and refill all the stem holders. Having so many 1st and 2nd instars makes it slow because I’m worried I’ll not see one and throw it away or knock it off. #insects #butterflies

All the eggs have hatched so today was a lot of upkeep. Caterpillars moved to larger cuttings, cleaning and removing wilted leaves. #insects #butterflies #conservation

I think I’m up to around 40 eggs/caterpillars. Found this bb still out in the wild on a hidden milkweed. #insects #butterflies #conservation

Monarch I've been incorporating a lot of these into my work lately. Sumi ink, gouache, a touch of black pencil on 4x5" hotpress #insects #butterflies #art #TraditionalArt #illustration
