Impossible Bézier Calligraphy (Approximating cubic nibs drawn along cubic strokes) By @[email protected] Given a pen nib of some shape, what composite shape is produced when that pen is drawn along any particular path? If the inputs are cubic Bézier curves, is the output as well? The catch? Itʼs mathematically impossible to model the output using cubic Bézier curves, as I determined after a bit of calculus. However, that doesnʼt prevent us from getting pretty darn close. Let me show you how it works out. https://cofree.coffee/~verity/bezier_calligraphy.html #graphics #calligraphy #calculus #SVG

A more detailed presentation: I'm a #medieval era enthusiast, #illuminations painter, and #calligraphy artist. I also draw and dabble with #watercolour. I make my own colours from powdered #pigments and a binder, following a recipe from the Middle Ages. Also interested in #bookbinding, #weaving, #papercraft, #writing, #poetry, #photography, #travelling, #paganism... I share my house with 3 #cats. I like Indian food, hot summer days, colours, #ukulele, writing letters to my snail mail penpals.

Hello Mastodon.art, I'm #new here. I have just moved from another instance. I'm a #French #illuminations #painter and #calligraphy artist. I work in a traditional way, mixing colours from a #Renaissance period recipe, and using gold leaf as in the #medieval era. I'm looking forward to seeing your works! Here's an M drop cap from the Lindisfarne Gospels I have painted back in 2017.
