It's Friday, and here's a fly. I think this is a tachinid, possibly genus zelia. I wish I'd captured some video, it had a weirdly spider-like way of scurrying around.

One of the most convincing mimics I've seen, the Broad-banded Hornet Fly.
The colors and shape are extremely hornet like, but it's also enormous. Hoping I can find more, this one didn't stick around along.

It's been a slow start to spring, but I spotted this small fly, which looked at a distance more like a grasshopper, on a stalk of dried grass.
Based on its thick spiny legs and distinctive antennae, I think this is Sepedon fuscipennis. Photo taken in Illinois.

It's the last #FlyDay of the year!
I've been unable to ID this fly, it has a distinctly ghostly appearance with interesting mold-green markings on its thorax, and doesn't look much like anything I've seen locally. Photo was taken in June of this year, in Illinois.

It's #FlyDay, here's a blow fly to celebrate?
Tentative ID as a secondary screwworm fly, which is fairly common where I live. The orange face was very striking.

It's #FlyDay and here's a tiny mystery fly.
I think this flower is a coral bell, they grow on tall stems in clusters and attract all sorts of wee pollinators.

A soldier fly, tentative ID of Merosargus caeruleifrons, for #FlyDay.

For #FlyDay, a flower fly, my guess is genus Eumerus but ID help always welcome.
