CW: Tip
Dice rolls are the bread and butter to almost every mechanic. They have the form xdy+z, where x is the number of dice, y is the number of die sides, and z is a flat modifier to add/subtract. For example, "3d4+6" means to roll 3, 4 sided dice, sum the result, and add 6. Some "rolls" are constants, e.g. "4", in which case the number 4 is always used. #tip

When you acquire a potion you will immediately consume it, applying the effects to your character. Higher quality potions are more expensive, but have more significant effects. Potions can only be obtained by finding traders (not shopkeepers) or treasure chests. Potions usually last for one in-game hour, which is after two short rests or one long rest. #tip

Once a spell is cast, a charge of its corresponding spell slot is used. You regain all uses of all spell slots on a long rest. Warlocks also regenerate all used slots on a short rest, and Wizards can regenerate some of their slots on a short rest once per day (long rest). Some spell casters have special level 0 Cantrip spells that can be used without needing any slots. #tip

Short Rests restore a limited amount of hitpoints by expending hit dice. They also can restore some spell slots if you're a Wizard or Warlock. Long Rests restore all hitpoints, your Level/2 hit dice, and all spell slots, but require more uninterrupted time. #tip

If you think the character deserves a retirement, you may vote for the "Retire" option when in town. Retiring will end the current campaign and start a new one. Retiring requires a majority vote as opposed to the usual plurality. #tip
