Big Old Beech #Bonsai I purchased this Beech from a club member and he said it needed to be repotted. That was 3 years ago. It does need to be repotted, but it is so tightly bound and the soil so altered to clay that I cannot get it out. It hasn’t hurt it so far, but will do it this year to avoid mishap. It is probably 25-35 years old, so I want to be sure and keep it healthy. Strong early growth this year and it shows little sign of heat/sun/ cold damage. Goal my be to lower the canopy a bit and try tong out of the pot. #Today #Gardening #Trees

More Maple Madness My first maple purchased at nursery for #Bonsai. The base was a grafted and this was the only one that didn’t have reverse taper above the soil line. The graft scar finally disappeared as the “bark” hardened. Decent trunk thickening over about 4 years of captivity. Like the form, but wish the right side would have new shoots added for balance…although the trunk bends/offset would be less dramatic, and the high canopy looks naturally balanced in current form. Light trim, fertilize, and keep on growing. #Today #Gardening # #Trees

Big #Bonsai Weekend #Today 2

A vigorously growing maple that is ready for lowering. Note smaller leaves and medium sized. Goal will be to get into a real pot next year…which will begin to drop the leaves down in size. Still aiming for about 18” tall tree.

As I was exiting the forest, 2 guys were entering and they were deep in conversation. What I overheard really confused me: “People are using vibrating sex toys to cheat the game.” Were they talking about actual games, the game of life, sex games? I have questions! #OverheardConversation #today

#Today Big #Bonsai Weekend continues.

Hinoki Cypress showing signs of base thickening. Tie wires beginning to cut into the trunk base. Loosen ties a bit, fertilize, and light trim on major shoots to temper takeoff.

Goal is to slowly bring canopy in tighter and lower a bit. Final design goal is an old twin tree that “has been through some stuff” as evidenced by uneven limbs, some broken deadwood, but is still giving it the “forest try”.

Well y'all, we've made it through another week. It's another lovely morning here #today. 🙂 Not to brag nor arouse the unwanted attention of the weather gods, #myday is starting out quiet, peaceful, cool (60deg) and sunny. 🌞 Once again with the high expected around 80deg and again, clear skies, a soft breeze and no rain. Perfect "Slackerday Sunday" weather. 👍😊 No party, picnic or any other people gathering plans ahead for me this holiday weekend. Just the usual, peaceful n quiet day of doin nothin, and enjoying our usual Sunday Hearty Breakfast. Perhaps doing some sun soaking and sitting n sipping out under the Pin-oak tree. But, for right now, the only thing on my agenda is getting up for a second cup of coffee ☕.😉 #joinin if ya like. In any case, have a great, peaceful and relaxing Slacker Sunday.👍😁🖖

#Bonsai born #today Ok…so I have a “magic nursery pot” where I stick cuttings of all sizes into. Stuck this one in last summer after a major trim on another crabapple…and it was buried in the back of the tree heap. Decide to harvest it and it’s huge with two giant (1 cm) apples on it! Proof that there is no such thing as the perfect soil…this thing is a mix of native soil and leftover potting mix. Healthy as a horse…hope it enjoys its new home. Incidentally, this is how you end up with too many trees. Photos: Magic Nursery Pot with cuttings from last summer. Happy hump day good people! It is 64 F (18C)an early morning gentle rain watered the garden we planted yesterday in the woodlands of #MO. High temps in 80s. #Today after my full workout we will finish our pond garden and add some decorative rocks around it. I planted 48 annuals and created 6 hanging baskets. The supplies are arriving today for Spooner the baby turtle, he is thriving well with my improvisations. Yesterday’s hike with Parker pooch. Kindness always🤗 #DogsOfMastodon #Gardening

So far #myday is proceeding very well #today. The clouds are breaking up and letting some sunshine filter through. 🌤 The temperature has warmed enough to open up the house windows to the warmth n fresh air.👍 Been chilling out, snacking on bits of leftover roast beef from last night's dinner with my coffee, while awaiting Trump's big moment this afternoon. 🤗 Champagne is cooled and on "stand by"....👍 All is set. All is ready. Come n #JOININ !!"Let the games begin." and "May the odds be always in your favor!!" LOL 😂

Though my wife has lifted the "burden" of cooking breakfast from me #today, some might be wondering why Sunday Breakfast preparation falls to me most of the time.

No, it is not because my wife is spoiled ( though she is😄) nor is she lazy or "can't cook worth a darn", but because it sort of a "family tradition".

I do it as a tribute and in memory of my late father. Like many, me included, our working schedules often kept us away from the little moments with family. He wasn't home very often on Sunday morning but when he was, he would cook us all ( 8 kids 🙂) our Sunday breakfast. Usually bacon n eggs fried in the bacon grease and toast with home churned butter thanks to Mom.

Of course, our version in much healthier these days but the "tradition" and the fond memories of him lives on here every Sunday.

Now I wanta cry...😒😢
