Copying and updating my fedi intro from my other instance, don't mind me xd
I actually joined my first instance back in 2017, in the now very defunct cybre.space and I honestly found the experience awful. I did come from twitter, and back then tweetdeck was a thing people used, but not me, I could not stand the column layout, so I never really used it, and when I joined Mastodon, column layout was the only option...
I did not last very much on Fedi and quickly went back to Twitter until very late 2020, when I joined the, back then, awoo.fai.su, which has now been domain swapped to awoo.fai.st (because the Soviet Union domain was apparently too hard to renew xd). It ran Pleroma, which was very new to me, but I kind of liked it.
Around that time I discovered Pleroma front-ends, and I found out about Soapbox, which was a much more familiar UI to me, more reminiscent of Twitter. I made my own shitty instance on a very cringe domain (terrible life decisions ahead). My goal was to have an open instance that would not defederate any content and was pretty much a free for all... Muh freeze peach... I considered myself an anarchist back then without even knowing the meaning of the word, and I quickly found out why anarchy does not mean do and say whatever, without minding the implications....
Those were my dark fedi days... My instance quickly got filled with fascists and pedos, and was rapidly defederated from all instances that werent filled with fascists and pedos... And I shut the heck out of it down when that happened. It was NOT fun. Do not recommend the experinece.
SO it was back to twitter for me, for another 2 years, until late-ish 2022, when the first big
#twittermigration happened, Elon confirmed the purchase of Twitter, and I quickly scrapped a Misskey server together on a crappy 6 USD/month VPS from Scaleway and threw it on mk.codingneko.com. It wasn't great, but it worked... This time the objective was simply to have a home for myself, and it worked, I got very comfy with Misskey, UNTIL I fucked up the database upgrading from Misskey 12.119.1 to 13.0.0 in January 2023. I had to start over on a new domain, and that's how misskey.codingneko.com came to be. My next journey is moving to catboy.baby, which is the cutest domain I own, and I decided to turn into a fedi instance (you are here) :3
I tried migrating my instance to Calckey unsucessfuly a few times, and when it was renamed to Firefish, I tried again, but it never worked, and I'm kind of glad it didn't, because I recently discovered Sharkey, and so far I'm VERY happy with it, the fast-paced iteration of the software and the plethera of super cool features it has are really nice to have, especially the edit functionality which I use way too much.
And in between software changes, instance changes, shitposts and tummy pics, I've met a ton of cool people who give me a lot of attention and make me very very happy. So thank you for reading my shitposts ❤️
