05-27: What #Music Genre Best Fits #WIP?
The series title says it all: Heavy Metal. (Okay, technically #80s hair/glam metal, because only those wild guitar solos on vinyl hit the right frequencies to charge the sonic batteries in the heroine's faulty bionic parts.) All the chapter titles are song titles, and the characters sometimes make lyrical references.
Why the heck did I weave that stuff into a #SciFi novel?
Partly homage: the story explores themes of #disability drawn from my own and my sister's experiences, and #rock music helps us both cope.
But mostly just because it's fun. #Cyberpunk too often wallows in bleak, gritty nihilism. I wanted to twist the genre's characteristic 80s aesthetics in a quirkier direction.
And so it came to pass that I started writing #books about a cyborg karaoke queen who solves murders.
