A Uakari poison frog (Ranitomeya uakarii) from last week along the the Rio Tahuayo drainage, SE of Iquitos, Peru. The males carry the tadpoles on their backs, climbing trees to bromeliad refugia and depositing them in water reservoirs among the leaves. Adult R. uakarii fit comfortably on your thumbnail, and get their name from the Uakari monkey, which has a somewhat similar distribution across Amazonia. #frogs #herps #nature #naturephotography

Wallace’s flying frog (Rhacophorus nigropalmatus), named in honor of Alfred Russel Wallace. Flying is a bit of a stretch - it’s more of a controlled fall or glide at best. They come down to the ground at night to feed, and to visit puddles for water and potential mates. The feet are equally webbed. Observed in southern Thailand. #frogfriday #frogs #nature
