I'm co-speaking on a talk on baremetal #Kubernetes talk with @[email protected] tomorrow afternoon at #UCTech2024. If you're a University of California tech person, I hope to see you there!
I really love @[email protected] as a container image base. It's so refreshingly simple.
#Linux #Kubernetes
Did you know that you can have multiple containers in one pod?

This is likely the last time I'll have those kind of numbers as workloads have been largely moved to baremetal on premise #Kubernetes systems over the past year. We basically bought the same hardware we were renting from Google and now run things at a fraction of the spend. The CapX to do it was less than one year of the OpX spend to not.
Linux container hosts serving up the web traffic in style like

500 restarts of the kube-apiserver in the span of 5 hours definitely explains the intermittent breakage in the CI system this morning.
#Kubernetes
It's the Monday back from Germany and I'm upgrading #Rancher #Kubernetes clusters. So far so good!
When #Kubernetes workloads start crashing and then you notice that the internal certs are expiring:

My workshop is today on deploying #Nextcloud in #SUSE #Rancher Harvester at 4:45pm, Berlin time.
If you are curious about how to run nextcloud on #Kubernetes without knowing Kubernetes and without hacking any yaml to do it, then I look forward to seeing you this afternoon.
Finally making progress on running Jenkins #podman jobs in #Kubernetes. The latter is most of the complication. Doing podman in Kubernetes is not yet for the faint of heart, but definitely possible. If you just need to build images, #Binderhub from #JupyterHub handles it in an elegant way in the helm chart using a daemonset and initializing a unique socket.
Kubernetes changes coming to Fedora 41 - FYI if relevant to you in case you need to adjust.
Long story short: instead of only having a single version of Kubernetes there will now be multiple versions in each Fedora release.

One step closer to having our #Jenkins be fully #Kubernetes at work. It's not like it was particularly difficult to set up, but more that there was enough bare metal resources allocated to the CI that it was a backlog item. Moving to k8s workers means those bare metal worker nodes can become k8s workers and be available for other workloads and devs can have more flexibility in directly defining their build environment requirements.
What do you run on your homelab? How about CCTV?
You can use Viseron, a Network Video Recorder, to set up such a system with Fedora Server and Kubernetes. Might be a cool project to try! 🤔
