これ読むと、#Mozilla は #Firefox と #AI に注力する方向なのかな。うーむ。#AI ね… いや、やり方次第なんでそれも良いんだけども。。 https://techcrunch.com/2024/09/17/mozilla-exits-the-fediverse-and-will-shutter-its-mastodon-server-in-december/ なんか、例えると、よくわかってないお偉いさんの「これからは AI だぜ！（キラッ）」っていうディレクションとすごく重なって見えちゃうんだけど、#Firefox 本当にそれで大丈夫かな…？ ブラウザに表示されてる内容の要約とか、すでに他のブラウザにも搭載されてる機能だし、それがそもそも本当にブラウザーにとってクリティカルな機能なのか（個人的にはまだ）分からないし、とくに既存の #Firefox のユーザー層だと #AI と連携する機能をブラウザに搭載すること自体よく思わない人も（たぶん他のブラウザーのユーザー以上に）多そうだけど、それでも #Mastodon サーバーを閉鎖して（上の記事を見るとそれ以外にも VPN のリソースとかも一部犠牲にして）#AI 連携？機能に注力して、その結果これからすごく革新的な AI 機能が #Firefox に搭載されて、かつそれが #Mozilla に（少なくとも今より）収益を生み出して、さらに Web の世界がより良くなるということを目指してるってことなのかな…？ （なんだかさらに #Firefox が心配になってきた :tony_neutral:

これ、#Mozilla の #Mastodon 単体で考えればべつにアカウント引っ越しもできるし、ユーザーには逃げ道があるという意味で（その手間がかかるとはいえ）それが :fediverse: #Fediverse ⁂ で良かったね、という話も出来るんだけど、 いかんせん、それ以前に「 #Mozilla 大丈夫？」という印象のほうがネガティブな意味で大きい。 どっちかって言うと #MozillaSocial よりも #Firefox のユーザーへの心象というか影響を心配してしまう。 世間的にも冷遇されつつある #Firefox をユーザーがどういう気持ちで応援して使ってるかということを考えると、こういうふうに #Mozilla がどこに向かってるかわからないフラフラした動きをしている（ように見える）のは、結構心が折れるきっかけになりかねないんじゃないかな… 自分も今はあんまり最近は #Firefox 使う機会がかなり減ってるけど、それでも歴史あるブラウザーエンジンが健全な Web のために #Firefox の中で生き続けてほしいと応援はしているので、色々心配になってしまう。 本分である #Firefox の改善に注力するんだと思いたい。（がんばれ

Before #electron, there were many apps built upon #Firefox's engine via xulrunner. It's very unfortunate that #Mozilla ceded this space and allowed Chrome-based apps to fill in the gap. Regardless of your opinion about browser based apps, it's unfortunate that they're such a platform monopoly now.

Preface: I don't mean this as a slight and I use Firefox every day. When I look at Mozilla's actions from the outside, I don't understand what they are doing to try to dig themselves out of the market share and Google paycheck hole they are dug in. I don't see the strategy. I don't see them heading a direction that I think is long-term hope for being independent. There's gotta be something I'm missing. #Firefox #Mozilla

I wish #Mozilla would put a little more toward polishing #Firefox for #Android. For example, the bug that's currently annoying me: the 3-button menu becomes simply unusable when my phone is rotated to landscape view. It altogether stops accepting presses and doesn't work until my phone is rotated back to portrait.

To the credit of #Mozilla, they considered feedback on Github, Mastodon, and Matrix when evaluating this change. I certainly wish another prominent North American open source vendor would have had at least this much consideration when evaluating the scope and impact of its recent unpopular changes.
