Hi fedi! :fox_wave: I'm Hazel, a transfem fox-girl software developer. I've been around for a while, but a lot has changed and my previous intro is no longer accurate. You may know me from the staff of Transfem.Social and Void.Lgbt, or as a maintainer of Sharkey and ModShark. To anyone meeting me for the first time: Hello and welcome to my profile! It's nice to meet you! I'm a polyamorous trans lesbian from the USA, and I'm part of a plural system (though my headmate isn't currently on fedi). I enjoy meeting other queer people, and I love spending time in our community here on fedi. Feel free to reach out if you have a question about queer experiences, or if you just want to chat! My hobbies include open-source software development, retro-computing, and gaming. I have a number of open-source projects, and I'd love to hear about yours too! I don't have much time for gaming anymore, but my current interests are *Honkai Star Rail*, *Genshin Impact*, and TTRPGs. My favorite game to date is the original *Life is Strange*, which actually helped me discover my trans identity. If any of this sounds like you, then feel free to drop a follow request. I'd love to hear from you! And finally, some emojis that make me happy: :neofox_heart_blue: :neofox_snug: :senko_peek: :tail::awoodance: #Introduction #Trans #Transfem #Queer #Lesbian #Polyam #Neurodivergent #Plural #Autistic #ADHD #Gaming #SoftwareDev #RetroComputing

Note to self: there's a magnet in the cover of my new laptop... I bought a copy of this MCI mail client on ebay. It was factory sealed. Before putting the disk in my #greaseweazle I placed it on my laptop keyboard. There's two magnets to help keep the lid closed... The flux image clearly shows my fuckup. I don't suppose anyone has a copy of this software laying about they are willing to share with me? #retrocomputing #fuckup #abandonware

Some of my aversion to complicated IDEs dates back to the Osborne One having you type out your CBASIC code in fancy WordStar 4.5 "binary mode" where Microsoft's MBASIC had it's own dead simple turn key IDE that didn't require swapping out floppies in between code tests. https://pixelfed.social/i/web/post/426438982768129979 #Programming #BASIC #IDE #retrocomputing #OsborneOne

I suppose I should post something introductory now that I'm on my own instance. I'm a Linux lady who used to work in COBOL development and assorted legacy systems management gigs. Nowadays I make videos and occasional blog posts about Linux and vintage/retro tech. Entirely supported by viewers like you (no sponsors as of writing). Links in bio. Are we still doing hashtags? #linux #retrocomputing #vintagecomputing #amiga #commodore #homelab #unix #peertube #youtube

So my Easter #RC2014 / #RC2040 project is getting The Valley to run under CP/M using VTxxx terminal emulation. I'm basing it on the second (full-fat) version I wrote for the UK101 in 2022 - https://z80.timholyoake.uk/retrochallenge-2022-10/ Biggest obstacle is replacing all of the display POKES/PEEKS with suitable VTxxx escape codes and keeping track of where the player is. I'm starting off in Microsoft BASIC, but it would be nicer to have something in Turbo Pascal eventually. Maybe! #RetroComputing #RetroGaming

One of the reasons I bought a 2600+ is that *most* of my 2600 games work on it, so if/when my actual 2600 eventually dies, I'll still have a way to play my actual cartridges and use my actual Atari controllers, assuming the 2600+ holds up.

There's no such benefit from this 400 mini.

The user manual (which takes a bit of digging to find online) has these rather telling things to say about the experience as well. https://drive.google.com/file/d/1V4JUcIzkCGoCbUWreuQAzSu4QaOwW6LS/view And yes, the RetroGames website links to Google Drive for the manual. It's not on the Atari website AFAICT. https://retrogames.biz/support/the400-mini/manuals/ #Atari #retrocomputing #retrogaming #400mini

I have to admit that the experience of managing the file systems on these early 1990s floppy disks could be a little better out of box on #Fedora #Linux. For one, it attempts to read ext4 then iso9660 before doing FAT32. And Gnome Disks gives all sorts of weird behavior. It's almost like testing priorities have moved away from 1.44MB floppies in recent years.

Nevertheless, after many failed attempts, I have achieved something excellent. This just barely and perfectly fits. #qbsh #Linux #retrocomputing
