I am currently reviewing some code, and am curious how people balance everything becomes a function vs just write code and let it run. I am familiar with the rule of ‘do it 3 times make a function’ but I have also heard the idea of wrap it in a function and give that a meaningful name. I have seen this latter approach taken to extremes on a recent code base which made it harder to navigate. What’s your approach? #RStats

Hey #rstats fam: what do we need to have a transparent and developer friendly package system? Posted on r-universe b/c that is what I think is the closest:

another new feature is the possibility to select the R engine to use. this is especially useful if RKWard was installed as an #AppImage which comes bundled with an R installation, but you might prefer to keep using the version of R that is already installed on your system and all of its installed packages. a setup wizard automatically checks this each time a new/updated version of RKWard is started for the first time. #rstats

For any #RStats people looking to be early adopters of this new mastodon server there is a pretty good article on the steps to take. https://allthings.how/how-to-migrate-from-one-mastodon-server-to-another/ It’s early days, but I’m hoping that some people will make the jump to help build a great community.
Guess it is about time for an #introduction post. I am an academic adjacent water quality and watershed planning researcher living in Texas. I enjoy applying and developing open-source data science tools (typically #RStats) for my job. I'll also talk a bunch about gardening, surfing, and fly fishing if you let me.
#introduction I'm a Post-doc working on mathematical and statistical model of malaria and COVID-19. I was actually trained as field marine ecologist, and only started picking up on my quantitative skills during my PhD in 2016, in which I drifted towards #infectious disease. Nevertheless, I love both #epidemiology and #ecology word, and hope to contribute to both domains using my #computational and #quantitative skills. I am #rstats enthusiast, but also speak #python and #cpp if I have to 😅
Starting off my Mastodon journey with a dataviz I made in #RStats with the #rayrender package! The Earth's submarine fiber optic cable network, visualized in #RStats with #rayrender.
