I almost feel bad for people who call themselves "AI artists" or "auto-artists." They have no idea what it's like to experience the labor of creation. They will never know what it's like to spend a year, two years, five years, or decades, honing a craft, developing a relationship with their artistry, searching deep inside themselves for what it is they have to say, and then saying it with all their might. They are like someone walking into a crowded room, pointing to a fully grown stranger and claiming, "I raised this person from childhood! I am a parent!" Obviously, they are lying. To the world, to the stranger, and to themselves. There is something tragic in that. #AI #AIart #autoart #writing #amwriting

Writing and reading are not about mass-produced stories that can be consumed like a cheap hamburger or used like a piece of particleboard furniture. A novel, a poem, a nonfiction book--whatever--is a shared experience. The author, even if they are a ghost writer, is putting a piece of their soul into the work, experiencing it as they write it, and you absorb it into your own soul / mind / spirit, when you read. The act of writing itself is a form of spiritualism, of meditation. That is why AI will never replace the written word of human beings. Because writing is creation, writing is reading, and writing is sacred. AI has no soul. It is a literal automaton. It doesn't matter. It is empty. I am not afraid of it, but I will not use it in my writing, or my writing too will become empty, which I refuse to allow. #ai #amwriting #bookstodon #writing #writer #writers
