It went really well! I am constantly floored by just how polite and nice Japanese people can be. It sometimes, ironically, makes me feel bad. I had to apologize whenever someone there felt the need to answer me in English. In a way, I'm invading their space and putting a burden on them. But, there is just no English-speaking community for people who make Milltina models.

Everyone's model put me to shame lol. I felt pretty good about the stuff I make, but everyone there is sooo talented. I really did not get just how outclassed I am and how much better all their sense of aesthetics would be! Wonderful stuff!

I just wish I had the courage to show off my "Kamen Rider" transformation. Someone was showing off this suuuuper cute "Magical Girl" transformation and it made me want to show off mine, but I didn't want to steal any spotlight from them. That would seem rude.

All in all, had an amazing time!

Played another session of the Gundam Tabletop Roleplaying Game today. Unofficial, for the record.

All I will say is we participated in a government sponsored news black-out by agreeing to be expert commentators over a shooting of "Top Ace," a game show where people try to see if they can pilot a mobile suit.

My character's final line during the recording?

"This is worse than prison."

(My character is a Zeon Prisoner of War being forced to work with the Federation.)

友人が作ったこの画像を見て、皆さんと共有したいと思いました。

簡単に言うと、この人物はX-MENのウルヴァリンが一人称に「私」を使っていることに反応しているのです。

ウルヴァリンは筋肉隆々で無骨な男で、いつも袖なしのシャツを着てビールを飲んでおり、戦いのスリルを愛する戦い好きとして知られています。ところが、日本語を学んだ際、極めて丁寧な日本語しか習得しなかったため、まるでビジネスマンのような話し方をします。

画像が指摘しているように、これは作者が丁寧な日本語しか知らないという制約によるもので、キャラクター設定ではありません。しかし、ウルヴァリンが「おいら」などの丁寧な日本語を使う代わりに、あらゆる場面で丁寧な日本語を使っていると想像すると、とても面白いですよね。

ちなみに、なぜ彼が日本にいるのかという面白い事実があります。クリス・クレアモントとフランク・ミラーは侍映画にハマり、ウルヴァリンを「浪人」タイプのキャラクターに作り変えようとしたのです。彼が不死身で1800年代初頭から生きているため、荒々しく野蛮な戦闘スタイルを制御できるものにするために、数年間日本で侍の道を学んだという設定を彼のバックストーリーに加えるべきだった。多くの点でうまく描かれていなかったが、それは基本的に彼のキャラクターにとって切り離せない要素となっている。

To translate, the individual is reacting to Wolverine from the X-Men using Watakushi as his preferred pronouns.

Dude is a buff, gruff guy who usually wears a shirt without sleeves, is always drinking beer, and is known for loving battle for the thrill of fighting. Yet, when he learned Japanese, he only learned extremely formal Japanese so he sounds like a business man.

As the picture points out, it's a limitation of the writer only knowing formal Japanese and not a character choice. But way funnier to imagine Wolverine is just dropping formal japanese at every turn instead of using oira or something.

Oh, fun fact as to why he is in even Japan: Chris Claremont and Frank Miller basically got into Samurai movies and tried to reshape Wolverine into a "ronin" type character. Had it added to his backstory that, since he's immortal and has been alive since the early 1800s, he spent a few years in Japan learning the ways of the Samurai in an attempt to calm his raging, bestial fighting style into something he could control. It wasn't well-handled in many respects, but it's basically become inseparable for his character.

From March 22nd, 2024 to July 1st, 2026, my character - Bethany the Minotaur -- was hired as an assassin to kill the "Stone Thief," a living dungeon threatening to eat the world.

After being turned into a ghoul (she got better), killing Medusa, marrying a nobleman, traveling to the Moon, riding in a cube (it worked like the magic elevator from Willy Wonka), teaching a Minotaur to read to get through a labyrinth (long story), traveling to different dimension, debating secessionist politics with a metaphor for Albertans because our Game Master was Canadian, and slaying a dragon by throwing a ton of bombs at it (I guess the others helped too), she finally killed the Stone Thief and has retired to the soft living of mooching off a rich nobleman.
